PART 7 - Developing a new concept with a real story

Knowing that Bolivia did not have a large film fund and would most likely choose not to support a foreign filmmaker, I stuck to the idea of convincing a private investor and expand on the development of a concept.

What I needed was to prove that the script was not some cheap art project, but that it could be turned into a gritty, western-type historical with action set pieces and combat scenes that could rival the best international productions.

I decided to create a proof of concept using sections of the most iconic combat scene in the script. The urban battle in Villar. With the help of Mazzotti stunt crew and filmmaker Dan McGarry we put together the combat scenes, rehearsed them several times and filmed them.

This video shows the final result of one of these scenes.

Since some time had passed between the trailer and the script, I began to realize that the trailer was no longer reflecting the actual story of the movie I wanted to put on screen. I needed a new trailer, a simpler one that allowed room to maneuver. And, ideally, with less resources since I doubted very much that the crew would be up for another long weekend of filming without pay. With Dan’s help, we put together a new teaser clip.
